Natan says, “White people have never been oppressed in this country,” and includes the Irish in a list of groups that have always had privilege in the U.S. While I agree that differing skin color is a major factor among racists, does this not gloss over the country’s history of xenophobia and discrimination towards certain European American groups, including the Irish?

The Mayan Apocalypse is not technically “the end of the world” it is an end of an era and the beginning of a new one. Honestly, what they say the next era is supposed to be like would be a good thing as far as I’m concerned. This era coming up is supposed to be the era of community, of sharing and realization that everything is connected. While this era that is now ending was the era of the self or individual, where people focused on themselves and saw others as separate from themselves. So in essence, the Mayan prophesy is saying there will be a change in human consciousness as a whole. I think it would be a good change and I believe we are heading in that direction already.
