    David,
I might be incorrect, but regarding the conversation about Michelle Bachman, it seemed to me that a point was missed. If one accepts the argument that God is angry, why not ask if God might be angry at Michelle Bachman? Where is the arrogance to be so sure God is angry at our government’s fiscal policy of spending too much? Perhaps God is angry because our government hasn’t done enough. Perhaps God is angry at Michelle, or the tea party? Perhaps God is angry because we are not helping the poor enough. Many other countries help their poor much more than us, so in my thinking, the big change IS the tea party.

Ron Paul’s followers are just the modern form of the Ayn Rand cult … kinda like the way Roman Catholics and Eastern Orthodox are modern descendents of the same early Christian church. There are probably SOME progressives disgruntled enough with Obama to fall for the “Blue Republican” shtick, but they’ll regret it if it actually succeeds.

(Libertarian = Republican who wants to smoke pot.)

As for the “100 percent off” stores, I’m wondering if this is something like the Panera restaurants in a few areas that don’t set a price on their food — some pay nothing, others pay more than market price if they’re able and willing.

    RE: Michelle Bachman

The seriousness of her comments depends on what you truly believe about her state of mind. From her tone and the flippant nature of the comment, I don’t think she intended literal meaning. To her, I would guess it was more just sarcasm with a name drop to reel in the crowd, not “God’s mad so meet me at Mt. St. Helens with 20 virgins at midnight — there’s only one way to placate Him to stop.” Do I think she’s an idiot? Without question. Do I think she’s the Christian equivalent of a Myan witch doctor? No.

I’ve said it before, Mr. Packman, if you’re throwing these thoughts out there as a way to spark conversation and inflame some folks — good job. If you really believe that everything everybody says is literal with no room for sarcasm or humor, you can probably find common ground with Sara Palin about David Letterman. It hasn’t turned me off of listening yet. Maybe I just need to hear you more to know if you’re playing it up. But if you really believe when you say that kind of thing, I’ll probably move on because you’re too foil hat fringe for my taste.

What’s really hilarious about Koerner and the blue republican thing is, their “movement” is non-existent.

Koerner started publishing diaries at Huffpo and the paulestinians flocked in droves to register and post their famously gushing/obnoxious comments.

Koerner kept publishing, the Paulbots kept commenting. All they did was switch from thedailypaul to Huffpo and kept the echo chamber rolling. But they think it’s some groundswell of support from democrats.

Gonna be some a rude awakening when Paul is crushed yet again…

Concerning Michele Bachmann and God and Hurricanes.

Anytime any political figure claims God backs their agenda, I think it’s worth media and voter attention.

Some religious leaders have claimed natural disasters, or violent attacks were somehow backed by God, and they have claimed to know God’s agenda with these happenings, but I don’t recall and political figure using that argument lately. Also, religious leaders wait a little while after the event to make such claims; I think it was especially selfish, callous, and unsympathetic for Bachmann to make those claims DURING the event.

I also believed she single-handedly (or maybe with the help of some crazy adviser) killed her presidential campaign. (Maybe God did send the hurricane – just to make Bachmann make this comment and kill her own chances.)

I am a Christian myself and yet by making such statements, Bachmann is serving as a guide on what you DON’T want in a candidate.
