I think athiest are more generous from a Human Point of view as opposed to a religious…..where athiest only get personal satifaction from giving , where religious think they’re getting closer to heaven by giving

    David,

If those small business suppliers are stupid enough to provide their service before getting paid, someone as smart as Newt (Super Genius) Gingrich has a duty to welsh on his debt.

Think of Alfred Hitchcock’s “Rope”: Naturally superior people are failing society by not taking advantage of lesser, stupider humans. In “Rope’s” case, custom and law about not killing people is no obstacle, and in Newt’s case, a contract is no obstacle.

Now excuse me while I dump the contents of the penny tray at the corner store into my pocket. It’s my birthright as a superior being.

I just heard your commentary on “Best of the Left” and I think the answer to non-believers being more generous is that the religious people do not believe it is their job to help.

Religious people tend to believe that a god will step in and help the people who are disadvantaged, it is to their benefit to believe this because it absolves them of personal responsibility. They believe the old phrase “God helps those who helps themselves,” ergo, the suffering in Africa is caused by god for some reason, and will be solved by god, if he wants it.

Atheists take more of a personal responsibility. We know that no one is coming to help the poor and disenfranchised, so I think we give more because we see the world as a result of personal actions. If we do good actions, good will come in the world. good doesn’t come from some random deity, it comes from man acting good. Non-believers have more of an investment than those who are waiting for the good in the next life.

Peronally, I could give a rats ass about being called a rascit, bigot, homophobe,or politicly incorrect. And if two guys want to plook each other in their own home, Thats their deal. If a junkie wants to shoot dope, Thats their deal. But dont bring it into my life.
