It’s probably worth knowing that here in England, cheques will be completely abolished by next year. Not a single person pays by cheque anymore and essentially nowhere accepts them.

Regarding caffeine talk in the bonus show:

Most root beers do NOT contain caffeine, with the exception of Barq’s. Most clear sodas (7-Up, Sprite, Sierra Mist) do not contain caffeine, but the yellow and green ones (Mountain Dew, Mello Yello, and the Southern delicacy Sun Drop) are higher in caffeine than most colas.

Most colas are caffeinated, but come in both diet caffeinated and diet caffeine-free varieties. Dr Pepper and the similar Mr. Pibb both contain caffeine but may have decaf varieties.

Most orange sodas are caffeine free with the exception of Sunkist. Most strawberry and grape sodas are caffeine-free as well. Fresca, which is tangerine-flavored, is decaf.

Cream soda is usually caffeine-free, as is ginger ale.

    David,
Love the more laid back look! Get rid of the tight ass long sleave shirt and tie number! You might want to 86 that white undershirt while you’re at it.

About the “justifiable to kill a certain 3-year-old who will grow up into a historical figure we all know of” question?

One of the better Twilight Zone episodes (of the new series about a dozen years ago) involved time-travelers with this goal.

David, I just finished enjoying your May 30 podcast, today’s is downloading now. You seemed puzzled by Sarah Palin’s comment regarding veterans granting us our freedoms (though you were perceptive that the converse implication of what she said was that the soldier can take our freedoms away).

The context/basis for Ms. Palin’s statement appears to be the poem “It is the Soldier”, by Charles M. Province. I get an emailed copy from some well-meaning right wing friend every Veterans’ or Memorial Day. The poem is a “gem” of the Viet Nam and Culture Wars, pitting the soldier’s virtue (aka “us”) against the supposed narcissism of the minister, reporter, teacher, organizer, lawyer and politician (aka “them”). As it’s actually copyrighted, I’ll provide a small excerpt, with a link to the authoritative version on the author’s page:

“It is the Soldier, not the minister
Who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the Soldier who salutes the flag,
    Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protester to burn the flag.

You need more well-meaning right-wing friends to send you stuff like this. Keep up your great work!
