–Tennessee State Senator Stacey Campfield, sponsor of SB049, also knows as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, joins us to discuss the proposal.
–Barack Obama provides his birth certificate and issues a public statement about it, and David thinks it is a huge mistake. We also discuss inherent racism of the birther movement, people finding fault with the birth certificate, why this issue will not go away, and more.
–Incredible time is being wasted by politicians, between birthers, hundreds of anti-abortion bills, repealing healthcare, pitting middle class people against each other through unions, and much more, and the real question is when will the majority realize it and get active to change things.
–Vermont takes more steps towards enacting a single payer healthcare system, and we discuss all the organizations that will do absolutely everything they can to stop it.

–A man is found to have been living with a dead woman for a week.
–Audience emails on Louis’ heavy metal band performance, the Obama birth certificate release, an incredibly angry audience voicemail, Donald Trump, and more.

The Superman conversation in the bonus show was just … painful. C’mon, guys … do a LITTLE preparation if you’re going to talk about something like that. My geek heart was left hurting.

Hi, Do like your programme – best on Youtube when I can see both of you. Helps that you are good looking – lol.
As an ‘outsider’ (Canada) – often not far enough outside – and someone who was deeply involved with the Civil Rights Movement, the presence of racism is undeniable. How could it not be? Not only is President Obama black; not only does he have a name that sounds “Arab” and, therefore, “Muslim”; not only was he the son of an African Black man and a White woman (Obama Sr. was also a notorious womanizer and we all know about the effect black men have on white women!!!) —- not only whatever else, President Obama is intelligent, an unusually good orator, formally and informally, a tall, handsome man with a winning smile (and basketball nut), he is married to a beautiful, charming, sexy woman and has two beautiful daughters. Even worse, he has the stature, the presence of a Statesman, equally at ease “at home” and “internationally”, with all kinds of people. He is one hell of a threatening black man to every white man who has any iota of remnant awareness of the danger of ‘negros’, ‘darkies’, coloured men’, etc., No matter how dim many seem to be – somewhere in their manifest craziness, they do have the gut awareness of the vast difference between the previous boor, Bush II – and a Trump who, for all his money, possessions, status, is crude, ugly, and a fake, a sham. If anyone is a “passer” here – it is Donald Trump.
It is curious, btw, that Barak Obama did not post the long-form birth certificate instead of the short one during the campaign. It is not over.
Thanks for your brilliant, personable, insightful programme.

Hello David, I just finished listening to today’s podcast and am ready to agree with prior comments you have mentioned as having received from others either by the voicemail line or these comments:
* Take the microphone away from Louis.
If he does useful things behind the scenes other than adding commentary (technical or what have you) that’s great but frankly I think your show would be better off with a replacement being given the microphone you currently provide to him.

Pakman,
Great show as always.
Concerning the President’s choice to release the birth certificate again; I don’t believe it was meant to put the issue to bed. I believe it was meant to clearly delineate who is and Is not seriously contributing to the nations progress. It is a line in the sand – this side serious participants in the debate and that side the clowns.
Looking forward to next weeks show.

Louis-you are a fool to think that the release of the certificate will make the issue go away. You do not understand human interaction. Only history will provide you the proof, so I won’t even address your incompetence.
Dave-This move was not a mistake in the sense it was meant to put any certificate issue to rest. The intent is to keep this “crazy” issue alive and amplified, so it can be pointed to later. The motivation is to have the argument that obama’s opponents are crazy by definition of this issue; therefore he is the better candidate by default. This is kid’s stuff to understand.

Gotta agree with Jason on this. The Superman story could have used some more research before you guys started talking about it… like any research. Superman is a DC comics character. DC is owned by Time Warner. The next Superman film (Man of Steel) is not due out until summer of 2012 at the earliest and is being directed by Zac Snyder (300, Watchmen, Dawn of the Dead). I doubt that this twist in the comics plot is tied into any promotion of the impending film.
C’mon guys, with the possible exceptions of Mickey Mouse or Jesus, Supes is likely most recognizable fictional character on the planet. A quick look at wikipedia would have made you guys seem much much less inept in regards to this story.

David: I’ve been reading some comments here about how Obama releasing his birth certificate is a strategic move intended to highlight extreme birthers and GOPers. That’s a great theory and even a unique idea. The problem is that the Democrats have a very poor record for capitalizing on behaviors, actions and statements made by the other side. I would love for Obama to stand up in front of the nation and recite the names of just a few of the radical lunatics who are intentionally planting more conspiracy theories in the minds of unintelligent, racist, uninformed followers. Unfortunately, Obama and the dems will likely take the “high road” and try to move on with the work that needs to be done while a small, but extraordinarily loud and squeaky segment of society will shout about photoshopped images, modern ink splotches and missing high school transcripts and prom pictures. I don’t think lunatics can ever stop being lunatics.

Obama was overly conciliatory in releasing his birth certificate. However, going forward, I would like to see a harder line from the Obama camp in re: any and all of the race-based challenges. The administration should take the liberty of paraphrasing the ultimatum that served the previous administration so well: “You either respect the office of the president, or you are unpatriotic.”
